hi.
I am 16 years old, 5’8, 160 pounds, and in my opinion, very healthy.
I do crew and play hockey, so at least 6 days a week i do 2 or 3 hours of cardio, weightlifting, situps, pushups etc. The workout is constantly changing so its not repetitive ineffective training thats the problem.
I usually have a protein bar, peanut butter sandwich or SOME sort of protein breakfast in the morning, a salad for lunch and a home cooked meal for dinner (mums a healthy cook).
I drink atleast two gatorades or 3 waters a day and I only snack if I become reeeally hungry in between meals. For the most part, i dont snack.
The issue is DEFINITELY not that i dont eat enough because trust me -i LOVE food- i definitely eat enough ![]()
I am not fat.. but I am definitely chubby. Im not looking for a perfect swimsuit model body, but my siblings who happen to play no sports and eat junk food all day are much thinner and i dont understand.
The only thing i can think to improve is my sleeping habits because i sleep only a few hours a night…and my parents say thats why i have extra weight.
ANYWAY. that was obnoxiously lengthy but if you were willing to read this I am wondering if there is anything I can do to lose the extra pounds or if there is something i am unaware of that may be holding me back. OR if there is some kind of pill or medication or SOMEthing to help me?
Ive tried everything i can think of other than dieting or purging.
wow. Thank you to all who have answered! I never thought i should eat more…sounds good to me ![]()
I will cut out the gatorades..i cant believe how much bad stuff is in there + it cuts down on bottles since i can use a nalgene for water. I cant really ask my coach to lower cardio…but i can choose to not do hockey the same days as crew…thank you again to everyone!

I see 2 problems here: 1. You are doing way too much cardio (which is not only ineffective for slimming down, but is also stressful on the body, increases cortisol levels and can lead to muscle loss and fat gain) and 2. you are absolutely not eating enough food.
Based on the information you gave:
Breakfast: approximately 300 calories
Lunch: approximately 200 calories (I’m being generous)
Dinner: (lets assume, meat, potatoes, veggies) 500 calories
3 Gatorades: (3×90) 270 calories
That totals 1270. Based on the information you gave and your level of activity, you should be eating no less than 1900 calories per day to LOSE weight. Even if you did eat a snack or two – they’d have to total over 600 calories to be at your bare minimum for weight loss.
Cut out the Gatorade, they have 310 cals per 12 ozs (most bottles have twice that in them). There is 1200 cals right there.
Drink 8 glasses of water a day, 8 ozs each and get more sleep.
if people tell you its peanut butter thats doing bad, its not, a peanut butter sandwitch are toast for breakfast with 1 serving of peanut butter has 320 calories for a whole breakfast, much better than sausage and bacon and all that shyt. and the pylonustarted fats are pretty good for you to. and watch out for butter becuase your mom might be putting butter, i have stir frie a lot, which has about 350 calories, + some sides which = about 450 calories
I’d say a good start would be phasing out the Gatorades…those things pack like 30 grams of sugar, and most of that is high fructose corn syrup; they’re as bad as sodas. It’s so easy to drink things without thinking about it…so replace those two with more water and you might see an improvement! I’ve felt so much better since I quit sodas.
Dietary changes:
Small changes really add up. I cut cola out of my diet and it’s helped a lot.
If you don’t have time to cook healthy meals buy a slow cooker. Chop up a bunch of veggies and some meat, throw it all in with some water and you have a healthy meal…but in a slow cooker you can get the food cut up and in the cooker in the morning and have it ready for dinner.
Exercise:
I walk my son to and from school so I’m making activity a part of my life, while the walk alone won’t drastically change me overnight the concept or idea of working fitness into your daily routine and can really help. Walk instead of taking a car/bus not only does it save you money on gas/bus fair but it’s a great way to squeeze in that extra bit of exercise.
While you are studying take jumping jack breaks, not only does this incorporate exercise into your day but in increases the oxygen flow to your brain which keeps you more focused and helps you learn things easier.
When you are reading class material try doing bicep curls, before long it will be second nature and you’ll be able to focus on the reading while squeezing in that extra bit of exercise. (just use some light weight dumbbells that can be stored in your desk/out of the way). You could also use a resistance band if you prefer.
If you can wake up 20 minutes earlier try squeezing in the 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels. It is an interval training dvd and everyone I know has had results from using it, best of all each session is only 20 minutes long.
Healthy supplements can increase the vitamins and anti-oxidents in your body and help your metabolism run faster.
I hope these ideas help you, good luck =)
