Help…as a college student what should be in my kitchen?
I live on my own
(left my parents home because they were very strict Muslims and wouldn’t let me finish my education) so I so far have
plates, knives, forks, pots, pans (every utensil you can imagine even baking items).
Now for food I’m confused as to cooking.
I have pasta, sauce, cereal, rice, milk, bagels, etc.
But what do I need to cook real dinners? Things that I can make and then store in the fridge for a week and eat. I don’t know how to make those kinds of things and what I need to buy to do it.
I don’t drink alcohol!

TO THOSE WHO LOVE TO COOK: I’m interested in learning how to cook, but have no idea where to begin.?
I bought a cookbook, tried a few recipes online, but I haven’t yet been able to get into it because I often have to buy ingredients I have never heard of before, and frankly, have never seen. The preparation time can be crazy!!! On top of all that, my Filipino family has always cooked basic Filipino food, so my wanting to cook is hindered by the fact that the only ingredients available to me are those that my parents are familiar with. Very discouraging for an aspiring cook. For now, all I really want to do is learn the basics to different styles of cooking. I don’t know if that makes any sense. I want to be able to prepare different meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I want to be able to learn recipes that I can use in everyday life. Filipino recipes are more than welcome!!! : )
Fast and easy recipes with cuisine-like results would be great! Is this really possible or just wishful thinking?

Cooking Pork Tips?
I know you are not suppose to eat pork and chicken with no pink in it. But, I always get pink in pork tips… I know its a dark meat, but I am affaird I will get, or have, worms. My parents told me to cook them wraped in alumminum foil for 30-45 mins. at 350F. But it just didn’t seem safe. Now I usually wrap them in foil and put in the oven for an hour @ 400F.
The meat is not thick enough for a food thermometer to work.
I just wanted to point out… that 400F for an hour for pork chops will really overcook them I know that for a fact.
It is one for those dial theometers, which has be calibrated.

my 14 year old neice has recently become vegetarian. she and her parents have gone to a dietician to learn how to eat properly and whatnot. my family is either still learning how to accommodate her lifestyle or think that she’s nuts. my husband and i would love to get her something for christmas that shows our support. she’s young and is just learning to cook her own meals so i wasn’t sure if a cookbook was the right way to go. any help is appreciated!

Parents telling me to learn how to cook?
I’m 13 and my parents are telling me I should learn how to cook by now. The only way they teach me how to cook is by watching my mom. When I do watch her she doesn’t let me experience anything. Just lets me stand there to watch her and I don’t find that a good way for me to learn. I tried watching her a few times and she never tells me what to do exactly. I think it’s a waste of time for me to watch and learn like that.
Is there something I can do instead of watching my mom cook? (Btw I’m chinese ^^)
I’m too afraid to try cooking it myself since it would be my first time and my mom would yell at me for wasting the food she bought.

want to lose weight, have a healthy lifestyle, what am i doing wrong?
hi.
I am 16 years old, 5’8, 160 pounds, and in my opinion, very healthy.
I do crew and play hockey, so at least 6 days a week i do 2 or 3 hours of cardio, weightlifting, situps, pushups etc. The workout is constantly changing so its not repetitive ineffective training thats the problem.
I usually have a protein bar, peanut butter sandwich or SOME sort of protein breakfast in the morning, a salad for lunch and a home cooked meal for dinner (mums a healthy cook).
I drink atleast two gatorades or 3 waters a day and I only snack if I become reeeally hungry in between meals. For the most part, i dont snack.
The issue is DEFINITELY not that i dont eat enough because trust me -i LOVE food- i definitely eat enough ![]()
I am not fat.. but I am definitely chubby. Im not looking for a perfect swimsuit model body, but my siblings who happen to play no sports and eat junk food all day are much thinner and i dont understand.
The only thing i can think to improve is my sleeping habits because i sleep only a few hours a night…and my parents say thats why i have extra weight.
ANYWAY. that was obnoxiously lengthy but if you were willing to read this I am wondering if there is anything I can do to lose the extra pounds or if there is something i am unaware of that may be holding me back. OR if there is some kind of pill or medication or SOMEthing to help me?
Ive tried everything i can think of other than dieting or purging.
wow. Thank you to all who have answered! I never thought i should eat more…sounds good to me ![]()
I will cut out the gatorades..i cant believe how much bad stuff is in there + it cuts down on bottles since i can use a nalgene for water. I cant really ask my coach to lower cardio…but i can choose to not do hockey the same days as crew…thank you again to everyone!

I would like some tips to healthy eating habits?
I live with my parents right now, and honestly, they don’t have the healthiest diets. They both work, so they don’t cook often, and if they do, it is usually quick, sometimes frozen, and always unhealthy.
I didn’t even eat what my mom made tonight because it was so unappetizing to me.
I know that cooking using fresh ingredients is healthy and also tastes better. But it requires a lot of trips to the grocery, which I don’t always feel like doing. Does anyone have advice on how to make this habit easy to pick up? And any tips on what to buy, like how long of a period of time should I shop for, ideally?
Share your experiences on how you reached your goal to a healthier lifestyle.
Links to yummy healthy recipes would be appreciated, though not necessary!
I do eat meat. I like red meat and chicken a lot. Not really pork, so much. I don’t like seafood.
I am fighting an aversion to vegetables I have had since I was a kid. So far I’ve liked pretty much every veggie I have tried, but I’m still having a hard time working up the courage.
