cooking and shopping for two?
i’m having a really hard time keeping my fiance and i on a healthy diet…
we go grocery shopping, get fresh veggies, fruits, lean meats, etc. but we can’t seem to buy small enough quantities of a lot of it to eat it before it goes bad…
even just one pepper or onion will go bad because i don’t eat them so we only use a half to a quarter and by the time we want to use it again it’s gone bad…we have vacuum seal bags and they work for some things, but others (like mushrooms) go bad even faster in them!
my fiance works one 24 hour shift (6A to 6A thursday into friday) and a 12 hr shift (6P to 6A saturday night into sunday) and often picks up overtime – sometimes over night sometimes during the day…
what are some things i can make
a. using the same fresh ingredients in different meals so they don’t go bad
b. stuff that is good as leftovers
c. stuff that my fiance can bring to work (he has a heavy duty giant lunch box & usually mini-fridge access)
we’re getting married in 2 months so i’d love for us to both be as healthy as possible on that day & i really don’t want him to fall into the same track so many other paramedics have (so many of our emergency medical professionals are overweight because of the life style they lead…it’s sad)

Cooking my first Thanksgiving dinner. Does anyone have good tips for the turkey?
My fiance and I have decided to stay home and have our own small Thanksgiving this year with his dad and my brother.
Yes, I have searched, but I guess there’s things I just don’t understand completely. I know the thawing process, but after that I am completely lost.
Can anyone "dumb it down" for me? Lol. I know that sounds awful, but I want to make sure it is done right. I would like to make a dressed turkey, but I’m not much good at homemade stuffing. Can I use boxed stuffing? If so, how exactly do I do this?
I will also be making green bean casserole (as well as other things). Can I do this the night before, if I wait to add the topping?
I know these questions seem really stupid, but I was never really taught so much as the basics of cooking, so I’m pretty much teaching myself. Any tips/advice you might have would be much appreciated! =]
Gah, sorry for more questions…I only had one home thanksgiving with my mother before she passed, and I was only 15 at the time so I didn’t really pay attention…Forgive me for my ignorance..lol
So a couple other rather silly questions…
I’m just covering the turkey with foil, correct? (ie, not wrapping the bottom as well, or cover the roaster itself).
Water/brother goes in the bottom of the roaster, under the turkey?
And stuffing….prepared? As in, ready to go, or almost ready to go? I think that’s where I am most confused…probably just due to wording…
Sorry =\ I know it’s not going to be perfect, but I’d like to at least do a decent job…and be able to do it next year! =]

What's a delicious healthy vegetarian meal I can make for dinner?
My fiance is trying vegetarianism for a month. I’ve been a vegetarian for a long time and I love to cook, but I guess I’m out of ideas!
I wanted to make a healthy, quick dinner for him tonight, but can’t think of what to cook.
I know I want to make a salad for sure, but am not sure what to serve with it. I have some tofu on hand that I would like to use, but I’m just not sure what I should make.

Cooking a perfect turkey…recipes? tips?
Last year, my fiance and I stayed home and made our own Thanksgiving dinner….and it was a disaster. The turkey was dry and my guy had left the giblit bag in it for the entire duration of the roasting. We are hoping to have better luck this year, and I have decided to do a ‘trial run’ this weekend to see if we are capable of cooking a turkey without it tasting like cardboard. Any tips or recipies?

i can't cook! i need your help!?
im a mother of 3 little children and a fiance’ of a good man who also has a daughter from a previous relationship. as i was coming up, i didnt have 2 cook. i was an only child so my mom done everything for me. i didnt hang out in the kitchen alot so i dont know how to cook really. i mean sure, i can fry a hamburger, chicken with a "fry daddy" and i can fix helper meals. a nice lady was kind enough 2 give me recipes 2 follow and i am really wanting 2 use them but i was wanting 2 know what are some main cooking utensils that i would need on a day to day basis for different meals. also i would like 2 know about different spices and condiments, ingredients, etc. due to the fact that no one in the house eats pork products, we will only be cooking like the main foods like hamburger, chicken, steak, etc. not 2 big and not 2 little. i have a pretty nice size family and i want 2 be able 2 do more for them like a woman should and i feel that me cooking more would help a lot. please help me!
