I am a 21 year old college student… I work full time and I go to school full time… so I don’t have a lot of time to cook. I’ve been spending the last few years eating A LOT of fast food and delivery… but I want to stop and start cooking for myself. I know the basics about cooking… I know how to measure and boil pretty much… lol. How can I learn to cook quick, yummy, cheap, (and I guess healthy) meals? And what are some recipes I should try? Thank you so much for your help!

At the checkout in the grocery store they have little cookbooks for sale. they usually have one called "Quick & Easy Meals" or crockpot cooking.
I think one of the best sites available for cooks of all levels is http://www.foodnetwork.com I would look at two cooks in particular – Rachel Ray’s Thirty Minute meals and Robin Miller’s show as well. Rachel has quick, easy meals that don’t require tons of prep or special ingredients to pull off. Robin Miller is focused to the healthier side and when cooking healthy less is typically more.
One bit of advice; as you grow your skills and confidence learn to experiment and deviate a little to get the flavors you like. Yes, you’ll throw something out once in a while – my dog ate a lot of omelette’s while I was trying them – but you’ll gain invaluable experience and knowledge too.
to start, i would say follow the recipes on the back on lipton onion soup mixes or campbells soup. also campell.com has lots of recipes and you can search by the meat you want to use….say you have some ground beef to use tonight you can search "ground beef" and it will give you all the recipes that use it.
happy cooking and good luck
watch the food network or log onto their sight
There are great cookbooks all over the place – try one of the ones that makes dishes with 5 or fewer ingredients
ask your friends and family to send you recipes – people are always flattered to be asked
A simple recipe to start you off;
mix ground chicken with chopped green onion, chopped water chestnuts, terriyaki sauce, and garlic – grill or pan fry and serve with grilled pineapple
good for you for wanting to kick the habbit for eating out, delivery, and fast food. that stuff is the leading reason we have cardiovascular problems, including diabetes.
cooking can be difficult, but it’s an art really
You should really look into going on those websites that people listed above (allrecipes.com is a good one). And start small. They usually have rating "easy, hard, etc".
The easiest things to make, in my opinion, are things that involve chicken. I make a devilish chicken parmesan. And it’s simply easy. though it takes a while to prepare, it’s great. I use it for dates…it impresses the ladies (wink).
Good luck!
I loooove Kraft.com, you can enter in an ingredient, or a few, whatever you have, say "chicken breasts", then it will give you all the recipes that they have that use chicken breasts. They have pictures of almost everything, and most of the recipes are super easy. I don’t have a lot of time to cook, or to look around for recipes, so it’s great to find recipes that use what you already have. I really use this several times a week.
Racheal Ray’s stuff is pretty fast. Crockpot/slowcooker and pressure cooker recipes are also great for saving time. My biggest tip is to make plenty of a recipe (or a couple of recipes) and freeze it in individual portions. Trust me. It’s a life saver when you can’t even see straight.
