I live with my parents right now, and honestly, they don’t have the healthiest diets. They both work, so they don’t cook often, and if they do, it is usually quick, sometimes frozen, and always unhealthy.
I didn’t even eat what my mom made tonight because it was so unappetizing to me.
I know that cooking using fresh ingredients is healthy and also tastes better. But it requires a lot of trips to the grocery, which I don’t always feel like doing. Does anyone have advice on how to make this habit easy to pick up? And any tips on what to buy, like how long of a period of time should I shop for, ideally?

I do eat meat. I like red meat and chicken a lot. Not really pork, so much. I don’t like seafood.
I am fighting an aversion to vegetables I have had since I was a kid. So far I’ve liked pretty much every veggie I have tried, but I’m still having a hard time working up the courage.

I know your situation, trust me.
The best thing to do is completely plan ahead. Think up or find some healthy recipes that don’t involve things like "Microwave for 3 minutes and enjoy."
Fast food is a definite no. All aspects, whether it looks good or not, ALL fast food is unhealthy.
A good habit to get into is actually noticing what you’re eating, even writing down what you’re eating as the day progresses is a good idea, and it really gives you perspective on what you’re ingesting.
But the best advice I give to you is to plan, oh lets say a few days to a week ahead on what you want to eat throughout the week/few days, whatever.
Here’s a sample list
Breakfast — Cereal w/ organic blueberries & an orange.
Snack — Grapefruit (no sugar added), avocado and/or organic berries.
Lunch — Natural Chicken Breast (organic if possible) salad on romaine lettuce with light (not low sugar, ASPARTAME = BAD) vinaigrette (raspberry is my favorite).
Snack — Vegetable
Dinner — Pasta w/ Vegetable such as zucchini or squash with an olive oil/vinegar or something of the liking sauce, no butter or cheese sauce.
Dont follow that religiously, its just a sample of something that you MIGHT come up with.
drink 8 glasses of water
have 6 servings of the rice-pasta-cereal-bread group
3 servings of vegetables
2 servings of fruits
3 servings of dairy
2 servings of the meat-poultry-fish-beans-nuts group

Fresh fruit and vegetables will generally keep for at least a week in the fridge so I shop weekly (when I’m organised). There are a lot of great recipes out there and they’re not hard to find. If you are a lazy cook, as I sometimes am, you can cook for the freezer. I often make up big batches of things and freeze them in individual serves so if I can’t be bothered cooking I have something healthy I can just pull out and microwave. You can add veggies to a lot of other dishes like spaghetti – I put in capsicums and carrots and celery, even zucchinni. I like vegetarian lasagne, dahl with rice, chunky veggie soup (I’m not a big meat eater most of the time). A really great healthy meal is a piece of lean protein like chicken (skin off) or fish with some nice steamed veggies. Really easy.
I found a diet that actually works and is workable too.
Instead of counting calories, or measuring portions, you trick your sluggish metabolism into overdrive with weird combination’s of food.
You might have roast beef deli slices and skim milk, or boiled eggs and peanuts.
You can have ALL YOU WANT of these foods at the prescribed time, just don’t eat until you feel like you are going to pop. You eat until you feel satisfied and comfortable.
You pick the foods on your diet in a diet generator program on your computer.
You eat every 2 1/2 hours; and you eat four meals, not three.
They claim you can lose 11 pounds every 9 days or so. My first 9 days on this diet, I lost 13 lbs, my 2nd week I lost 7 lbs…so over all, 20 lbs in two & 1/2 weeks and i never felt hungry. Worth the $30 or so for the diet if you ask me. I’ve only been on this diet for 2 1/2 weeks or so now, but I feel GREAT. I feel lighter on my feet, more energetic..I don’t know how to explain it honestly, it’s just an awesome feeling!
Anyways, Check it out here! http://www.fat-loss-4-morons.info
Good luck, and let me know how it goes!

Stay away from salt. Thats a start. Try and find a vegetable that you think you would like. I am quite fond of broccoli and spinach. I would also reccommend alot of fruits. Eating healthy does not require alot of trips to the grocery store if you know how to shop and know how to budget. The key is to never go shopping on an empty stomach. You always buy more than what you need and more than often buy the wrong shyt. I learned how to cook when my mom made something that I didnt like because more often times than not, i went hungry. I recommend putting some effort into it. You have to want to do this. The internet has lots of healthy recipes. I used to be near 160 pounds and was teetering on having high blood pressure. I am now 136ish pounds and I plan to tone up and lose a little bit more weight for my height. Going to the grocery store is fun for me. Eating out can kill your wallet.
