I was planning on making steak tips for dinner tonight [I usually grill them with a homemade barbeque sauce, but due to rain, I can't grill tonight]. I’ll admit I’ve never cooked steak tips on the stove top. Any suggestions?

There are several cuts of meat that are called ‘tips’ and you haven’t defined what the ones you are using are.
If you are how ever used to cooking them on a grill, they will cook the same way in a frypan, or under the grill in the oven
Rub a tiny bit of olive oil on them, sprinkle with salt and black better, throw them in a grill pan (or a heavy-bottomed pan) over medium-high on the stove top until they are done to your liking.
Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, brown some butter (melt butter ’til it foams, skim off the foam, wait for the butter to get brown bits in it). Pour over the steak tips. Nom nom nom.
